INARA’s team in Afghanistan recently conducted a field visit to the Afghan-Iranian border, to assess the urgent needs emerging from a rapidly escalating humanitarian crisis.
Following the mass deportation of Afghans from Iran, our team witnessed first-hand the catastrophic impact on families and individuals stranded in makeshift shelters. The situation at the border is dire and deteriorating quickly.
Afghanistan’s ability to absorb returnees is almost non-existent. Basic public services are collapsing, job opportunities are scarce, and the current authorities lack the infrastructure or capacity to provide even the most essential support.
INARA’s team assisted with hot meals and food distribution but there is a lot to be done.
International organizations have reported increasing cases of disease outbreaks, severe dehydration, and hunger; particularly among infants and young children.
We are actively working to assess needs to respond to this urgent and growing crisis. The situation requires immediate attention, increased funding, and a unified humanitarian effort to protect the most vulnerable and prevent further deterioration.
