Our team in Afghanistan is preparing to intervene and support families affected by the recent earthquake in eastern Afghanistan, which struck hardest in Kunar and Nangarhar provinces, with additional impacts in Laghman and Nuristan. According to local authorities, the death toll has risen to around 1,000 people. Entire villages, especially in Kunar region were flattened, with widespread destruction of mud-brick homes, further worsened by landslides in the mountainous terrain.
Remote and rugged conditions, combined with damaged roads, continue to severely hinder relief operations.
