Over a month into our Rapid Response Intervention for Lebanon, INARA has reached more than 2000 displaced families nationwide with essential aid and support.
Since the conflict escalations began, INARA has been in ongoing contact with families under our care, ensuring their safety and access to essential daily life needs. Consecutively, more families have reached out to us seeking urgent support. In response, a thorough needs-based assessment was conducted, followed by starting our weekly aid distributions.
Our distributions have so far included 1,145 food parcels, 1,445 hygiene kits, 2,000 boxes of medicine (catering to the medical needs of our beneficiaries), 1,600 mattresses, 1,500 blankets, and 1,200 pillows. Part of this aid is a result of collaborative efforts with partner organizations, expanding our reach to more families in remote villages, including already vulnerable communities of refugees.
As a result of the ongoing conflict, escalating amid an already disrupted economic situation, most of those families have lost their sources of income, leaving them without access to even their basic life needs, thus relying on our support. Helping those families meet their needs contributes to their medical and mental health well-being. For one to leave their home, unable to provide for themselves or their families, the consequences on their mental health are devastating, and it impacts their sense of dignity. Therefore, our rapid response intervention addresses those families’ immediate needs and necessities while alleviating their financial burden and preventing serious implications on their health amid harsh displacement conditions.
This is as temperatures drop and foreseen consecutive challenges arise. While many families remain in the streets, either in the open or sheltering in tents that won’t protect them from the cold, an urgent need to find adequate shelter evolves. To address this urgent need, INARA plans to conduct a winterization intervention supporting 200 families over the next three months, including 45 families already under our care. We plan to provide them with essential supplies, while closely monitoring the evolving needs and overall situation.
Moreover, our specialists have developed a psychosocial support plan addressing the needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in crowded shelters, ensuring they receive crucial mental health support during these challenging times.
Meanwhile, the needs are increasingly evolving with more than 190’000 people displaced in collective shelters and reports of 350’000 children in need of humanitarian assistance. With the contributions of our donors, augmented by the efforts of our staff and volunteers, we’re able to reach more families upon every distribution. Donating through INARA you’re helping us deliver critical aid, relief, and assistance.
