This March, INARA’s team in Afghanistan, in collaboration with Orphans in Need (OIN), brought hope to some of Kabul’s most vulnerable families by distributing 805 food parcels to widow-headed households.
These weren’t just parcels, they were lifelines. Each one was packed with enough food to sustain a family for an entire month. For many widows, especially those working tirelessly to provide to their families, this meant a chance to finally rest during Ramadan, comforted by the knowledge that their children would not go hungry.
For women battling both the weight of loss and the harsh grip of gender-based restrictions, the impact was even deeper. Many of these mothers, once able to support their families, have been pushed out of the workforce. Some have had no choice but to send their children to the streets to earn a living. But this food support changed the narrative; mothers could finally tell their children, “You can stay home. You don’t have to work today.”
Beyond food security, the parcels gave families breathing room. Money that would’ve gone to groceries could now be used for critical needs like rent, healthcare, and education; opening the door to a bit of dignity, relief, and hope in a time when it’s needed most.
